Coastal.
Light, not blue.
The direction most often reduced to navy and rope. What actually makes it work is light — and salt, which changes every material it touches.
What is coastal event design?
A language built on the quality of sea light — bleached, high, slightly cool — and on the materials the coast produces: unfinished wood, rope, salt-faded paint, rough paper. It is not a blue palette. The commonest failure is nautical decoration, which reads as a theme rather than a place.

What actually defines it.
- Bleached, not saturated. Coastal colour is washed out by light. Deep navy is a nautical cliché rather than a coastal observation.
- Working, not resort. The strongest coastal work looks at a harbour — nets, crates, chalkboards — rather than at a hotel.
- Texture that has weathered. Uncoated, rough, slightly irregular. A gloss finish contradicts the whole idea.
- Practical constraints as design — wind, damp and glare are real at a coastal event, and signage that acknowledges them looks considered rather than compromised.

Common questions
Is coastal too casual for a wedding?
Not at all — but it does set an expectation. If you want a formal evening at a coastal venue, the stationery has to do that work, because the setting will not.
What about signage outdoors?
Wind and damp are the real constraints. Heavier boards, mounted rather than propped, and matte finishes that do not glare in sea light.
Does it have to be blue?
No, and the best of it usually is not. Sand, chalk, rust, oyster and washed green are all more interesting and more accurate.
