Dress code:
the line to print.
Every dress code is a compression of a longer instruction, and guests decompress it differently. This gives you the line — and tells you what they will hear.
How do I word a dress code?
Two or three words, bottom right of the details card — Black tie, Cocktail attire, Garden party. Add one practical clause only if the venue demands it (flat shoes for the lawn). A named code guests misread is worse than a plain sentence they cannot.

Say it early if it costs money. White tie and black tie both mean some guests are hiring or buying. Finding that out four weeks before is a genuine imposition — put those two on the save-the-date, not just the invitation.
