Do I need
an event website?
Not always — and the answer depends almost entirely on how far your guests are travelling.
Do I need a wedding or event website?
Yes if guests are travelling, the event runs over more than one day, or there is information that will change. No if it is a local, single-session event with a simple schedule — a details card covers it. A website's real job is holding what cannot fit on a card and what may need updating after printing.

The honest test.
You probably do not need one
Local, one venue, one session
Sixty guests who all live within an hour, one venue, dinner and dancing. Everything a guest needs fits on a details card, and a website becomes a page nobody visits twice.
You probably do
Travel, multiple days, or moving parts
Guests flying in, a welcome dinner and a brunch, hotel blocks, a shuttle time not yet confirmed. All of that is too much for a card, and some of it will change after the cards are printed.

What belongs on it.
- Anything that may change — shuttle times, the schedule, a venue detail. This is the strongest single argument for having one.
- Travel and accommodation — hotel blocks, airports, driving directions, parking.
- The full schedule — every session, with times and dress for each.
- Questions you will otherwise be asked — children, plus-ones, dietary, gifts.
- The reply, if you are collecting online. One link, obvious, above the fold.
A website does not replace the invitation. The invitation is the announcement and the keepsake; the site is the reference. Guests who receive only a link generally read it once and remember less, and older guests may not open it at all — which is why the invitation must still carry date, time and place in full.
