El Bautizo de Emma Molina, in Fucsia

Ten pieces, one ribbon. The invitation redrawn as “La Columna” and the whole suite translated to follow it.

This is the suite rebuilt in the colour the owner chose on 03.08.2026 — scheme 09 Fucsia, #CC1991 over #E977C3 — from the ten-pinks study. The decision itself is written up on its own page, “The colour, chosen”, with every gate re-measured.

Two things changed at once, and only one of them was asked for. The colour is the owner's choice. The layout is redesign No. 02 “La Columna” — the piece the pink study was drawn on — so the suite that descends from it inherits that layout too: the stripe panel narrows from 26% to 13% and crosses to the left, the copy ranges left against it instead of being centred, and the ghost E leaves the panel to bleed off the right edge at nearly the height of the card. Choosing the fucsia card meant choosing that card, and this is what the rest of the stationery looks like once it agrees with it.

The delivered champagne suite is untouched. Nothing in app/portfolio/ was edited or overwritten; the ten files here are a new version sitting beside it, which is the repo's standing rule. Whichever one the family prefers, the other is still on disk.

The system

One hue at two values, and one ink

Every piece in this suite is built from the same four tones and the same ribbon. The two fucsias share a hue, so the light band is a tint of the same plate rather than a second ink — the whole suite is one spot colour at two strengths.

The ribbon, at nine times its printed size. Three parts A to two parts B. On every piece it is declared as repeating-linear-gradient(to right, A 0 3cqw, B 3cqw 5cqw) against the card's own width, so a 13% column shows 2.6 stripe pairs whether it is running down an A5 invitation or a 90mm place card. That is the one line the whole suite copies verbatim, and it is why the ribbon reads as the same ribbon at every size instead of as a stripe that happens to recur.

Locked across all ten

  • Two voices only. Cormorant Garamond names things, Jost explains them. No third face anywhere in the suite.
  • Four tones only. Marfil #FAF6EE, tierra #2C2419, fucsia #CC1991, rosa #E977C3.
  • A does every ink job — the wide band, the display accents, both hairlines, the ghost initial, the wax seal, every course label and section head. B does one: the narrow band. It never holds a letter.
  • The three signature devices — the arch on the invitation, the wavy die-cut on the flat pieces, the ghost E.
  • The axis. Copy ranges left against the column on eight of ten pieces; the two exceptions say why on their own plates.

Refused, per the direction

  • Flores fotografiadas o ilustraciones botánicas
  • Tipografía script como display principal
  • Fondos oscuros o tonos fríos — engaged once, on the envelope liner; see the decisions below
  • Iconografía religiosa obvia o angélica
  • Colores pastel infantiles (rosa, celeste, menta) — cleared: fucsia is lightness 0.45, chroma 0.78. A pastel needs high lightness and low chroma; this has neither
  • Diseño de plantilla digital genérica

The ten pieces

In the order a guest meets them

Save-the-date first in the post, then the envelope with its liner and the invitation and reply card inside it, then the programme in the cathedral, then the table at the Faena, then the thank-you ten days later. The plates are numbered in production order rather than that one, which is why the save-the-date is 04.

Invitación · La Columna

The primary piece — everything else descends from it. The arch is unchanged from the delivered card. What moved is the panel: 26% on the right becomes a 13% column on the left, where it stops being decoration on an edge and becomes the margin rule the type is measured from. Ranged against it, every line begins at the same place and Emma lands on that axis like a signature. The venue line is set in fucsia at 4.73:1 — the delivered card sets it in champagne at 2.08:1, which is why it reads there as decoration rather than as the first fact on the card.

Sobre · reverso

Diamond flaps closed over the fold rule, the suite's ribbon run across the top flap at 38%, and a fucsia wax seal carrying a marfil E — a true reversal at 4.73:1, not a wash. The address block stays centred, deliberately: it sits on a triangle that narrows to a point, so a left axis would run the second line into the diagonal while the first floated free of it. La Columna is an argument about a rectangular page and does not survive being applied to a triangle by rote.

Forro del Sobre

The surprise of the interior — no words at all, because the liner's whole job is the half-second between lifting the flap and lifting out the card. Fucsia flood, the suite's ribbon inverted to marfil at 18%, the ghost monogram at 45%. This is the one plate in the suite where the chosen colour is the ground, and the one place the direction's cool-ground refusal actually bites; it is decision two below.

Reserva la Fecha

The invitation's whole apparatus at a deliberately reduced pitch — the name is 14cqw here against the invitation's 23, enough to identify the personality without spending the invitation's impact three months early. The wavy die-cut rather than the arch: the arch is the invitation's silhouette and stays the invitation's.

Menú

The piece that gains most from the colour, and the reason is measurable rather than aesthetic. A menu is mostly small tracked labels — ENTRADA, PLATO PRINCIPAL, POSTRE — and in the delivered suite those are champagne at 2.08:1, effectively decoration that happens to spell words. At 4.73:1 they are legible at arm's length in candlelight, with no change to the layout at all. The column narrows to 11% here and only here: on a 5:12 strip, 13% leaves a measure two dish names cannot hold on one line.

Programa de Ceremonia

The piece La Columna was arguing for, even though the study never drew it. An order of service is a list — nine acts, eight of them with sub-items — and centring damages a list outright: every line starts somewhere different, so the indented sub-items stop reading as indented at all. Against the column the hierarchy is visible without a single bullet: acts on the axis, sub-items 3.5% in from it.

Pieza 07 de 10

Tarjetas de Lugar

The piece that proves the layout. A place card is one guest's name and nothing else, and a name against an axis reads as a signature where a name floating mid-card reads as a label. It is also the study's identity claim cashed: cropped to its left corner this is still recognisably the suite, which was not true of the delivered version's right-hand accent. The ribbon runs the full height of the flat sheet, so once folded it appears on both faces at the same position — one continuous ribbon around the fold.

Pieza 08 de 10

Números de Mesa

The one piece that does not range left, and the reason is not a compromise. La Columna's argument is about a starting point, and that needs more than one line to be about anything; this piece has one glyph. Set hard against a left axis a single numeral does not gain a starting point, it gains a lopsided card. So the number is centred in the field the column leaves — the ribbon keeps its asymmetry at the card's edge while the numeral sits square in its own space. The brief here has one line in it, “legible desde diez metros”, and everything yields to it.

Tarjeta de Confirmación

Travels inside the envelope with the invitation, so it carries the same ribbon and the same axis at a smaller pitch. This is the piece where ranging left is not a preference: it is the only card a guest writes on, and its bottom half is two tick boxes and a ruled line — objects that are left-aligned by nature. Against the column the boxes, their labels and the signature rule all start on the same axis as the copy above, so the card reads as one form rather than a card with a form stuck to the bottom. The boxes are fucsia-ruled, never filled: a filled box looks pre-answered.

Tarjeta de Agradecimiento

The last piece of the system, posted within ten days. It is deliberately the invitation's own card with one word swapped — “Gracias” standing exactly where Emma stood, at 21cqw against the invitation's 23, because a thank-you should arrive a little quieter than the invitation did. It is also the one place the accent takes the display line: here the sentiment is the subject and the name is the signature, which inverts the pair everywhere else in the suite. At 4.73:1 fucsia can carry a display line honestly; the champagne it replaces could not have.

What each piece prints to

One spot colour throughout — fucsia at full strength for A and as a tint for B — on marfil stock, with tierra as the second ink. The die-cuts are two shapes, not ten: the arch on the invitation, the wavy edge on the five flat pieces.

Before it goes to press

Three things that need an answer

None of them blocks the design — the suite is finished and the colour is locked. These are the three things that would otherwise be discovered at the proof stage or at the printer.

One · the ink

Fucsia is not a standard letterpress mix

A pink this saturated needs a fluorescent-based spot ink. That is a cost line and a longer proof, and it is true of anything in the magenta half of the study — the ten-pinks page ended on the same note.

The compensation is that the suite needs one ink, not two: A and B are one hue at two values, so the light band is a tint of the same plate. Approve on a wet proof on the actual cotton rag, not a digital one — magenta photographs hotter than it prints.

Two · the liner

The one refusal the choice engages

The direction refuses “fondos oscuros o tonos fríos” — dark or cool grounds. On nine pieces fucsia is ink on warm marfil and the refusal is not engaged at all. The liner floods it edge to edge, and at hue 320° it is on the cool half of the wheel.

It is built in fucsia because the liner is the one surface whose purpose is the colour having its moment. If the family would rather not, the alternative is one line: flood the liner marfil and run a solid fucsia ribbon across it instead. That keeps the ground warm and costs the surprise.

Three · the envelope

A spec corrected, not a colour changed

The delivered suite lists the envelope as “DL · 110 × 220 mm”. A DL envelope cannot hold the invitation it is paired with — that is a flat A5, and DL takes a tri-folded A4. The artwork was always drawn 5:7, which is the C5 proportion, so the drawing and the spec line have disagreed since the suite shipped.

This version keeps the artwork and fixes the line: C5, 162 × 229 mm, the envelope that actually takes a flat A5 with a liner in it. Flagged here rather than slipped in, and the delivered file is untouched.

Where this sits

Two complete suites now exist for this baptism, and both are on disk. The delivered champagne suite — “Forma y Luz”, centred type, 26% panel on the right — is live on the website at app/portfolio/ and has not been edited. This one — “La Columna” in fucsia — lives in Designs/RenataMolina_Baptism_Fucsia_20260803/. Choosing between them is the family's, and neither choice destroys the other.

Every piece can be ticked off individually on the sign-off board at docs/FINAL_DESIGNS.html, which reads its list of pieces off this page — so this page is the declaration, not a summary of one.
