Chen · NURA Launch · September 2026 · The Greenpoint Glasshouse, Brooklyn

Two ways into the same night — one built from the fruit, one built from the cold can. Pick the world that feels like the first sip.

The Fruit Stand

The invitation is a produce-crate label, not a drink ad — the same confident fruit-as-graphic tradition Maya already keeps in a drawer, printed bold because flat ink was never allowed to blend.

flat colour, hard edge fruit is the hero, never a photo cream ground, full daylight one foil arc, as the fizz

Two winters ago, in a Greenpoint apartment eleven blocks from this glasshouse, a formulation chemist tired of drinks that looked like pharmacies started hand-labelling bottles for friends. NURA launches on the exact date that first batch was brewed. This world hands guests the fruit the way Maya's own vintage California crate labels do it — oversized, flat-inked, joyful — so the graphic carries the story before a single word is read.

In the imagery
The crate label — Maya collects vintage California citrus-crate labels; the board draws the fruit as flat graphic in that exact print tradition, never the stock fruit photography the brief bans.
Palette in context — coral, cobalt, lime, lavender and cream shown as real cut paper, colour-blocked not gradient-blended, straight out of the brief's Sottsass / Memphis reference.
The one foil — iridescent foil is rationed to a single condensation-arc across the rind — "the fizz, not the wallpaper," in the brief's own words.
How this world lands
InvitationRigid cream board, rounded corners; one oversized crate-label fruit, foil arc across the rind.
SuiteEach station's card carries one flavour's flat colour-block; the fruit crops off the edge like a cut sheet.
Signage & spaceEntry fruit at sculpture scale, one flavour per zone, matched to the venue's oversized fruit forms.
DigitalRSVP page as a cream crate label; the NU mark nested in the fruit, doubling as sticker and can-top seal.
Guest arcArrive to the grove in full colour → taste four flavours at four colour-blocked stations → leave with a first-batch four-pack.
Still open in this world
  • Whether a crate label can carry five flavours without becoming five brands. One flat colour-block per station is the system; five oversized fruits in five brights is also five posters that do not obviously belong to each other.
  • Whether the foil arc reads as fizz or as decoration. It is rationed to one condensation arc across the rind. Iridescent foil on a flat-ink card is the only thing in the world that is not flat, and it may simply look applied.
  • Whether flat fruit survives being a can. The mark is a lime wedge as a silhouette badge; on a curved can under shop lighting a hard-edged silhouette behaves very differently from how it behaves on board.
  • Whether daylight is the right register for a launch that runs into the night. This world is the room flooded with light, and doors are at seven with a DJ on the river deck afterwards.

Cold Open

The invitation is the cold can itself — condensation, one iridescent band of fizz — shot under the room's own colour-wash light, built to photograph brilliantly in every hand and every phone all night.

river-deck set · the fruit room hum

Doors at 7, a welcome pour at the coral bar, then DJ Okonma on the river deck while The Fruit Room's colour-wash installation breathes over the steel. The design has to hold its own inside that light — deep ground, one metallic, nothing that muddies when the room turns cobalt.

The cold can — the brief asks the foil to "catch light the way condensation catches it on a cold can"; the hero is that exact surface, under coloured light.
The room at night — the glasshouse is being transformed with immersive colour-wash light and lit fruit sculptures; the dark ground is earned by the venue, not a default.
Foil is the fizz — the one metallic reads as a thin prism against near-black, built to survive the coloured light the press will shoot all night.
How this world lands
InvitationDark rigid board, rounded corners; the cold-can macro under wash, one iridescent fizz hairline.
SuiteMenu cards stay dark; each station gets a single colour-wash bright; foil rationed to one line per piece.
Signage & spaceWay-finding as colour-wash light on steel; fruit sculptures lit from within, no printed panels.
DigitalLaunch page near-black with the condensation hero; the fizz-cluster mark glows; one bright call to action.
Guest arcEnter the colour-wash dark → the lit Fruit Room is the reveal → depart with a cold first-batch can in hand.
Still open in this world
  • Whether a dark ground can hold five brights. The colour comes from the room's own wash rather than from ink. Printed on dark board without that wash, four of the five may go muddy — which is the exact risk this world names and does not resolve.
  • Whether the product can be the image before the product exists. The hero is a macro of a cold can under coloured light, and the can design is still being revealed at the party.
  • Whether one foil hairline survives a phone camera. The whole argument is that it photographs brilliantly all night. A thin prism against near-black is also the first thing a phone loses.
  • Whether the dark suite can be read at all in that room. Deep ground and colour-wash light is a beautiful photograph and a hard reading condition for a menu at a bar.

The choice

What the choice turned on

Both worlds launch the same four flavours. One prints the fruit; the other photographs the can.

A — The Fruit StandBUILT

You want the brand to look drawn — a produce-crate label in the flat-ink tradition Maya already keeps in a drawer, cream ground, full daylight, one foil arc as the fizz. It is a graphic system before it is a product shot.

B — Cold Open

You want the brand to look cold — the can itself under the room's colour-wash light, condensation and one iridescent band, built to photograph brilliantly in every hand and every phone all night.
