Your event identity — the strawberry corner

Everything Matilda has been sent is built from a very small number of decisions. They are written down here so that anything you make yourselves — a label on a jar, a sign at the gate, a card for a grandmother — still belongs to the same afternoon.

The colours

Buttercream is the paper and the ground of everything. Bracken Ink is every word. The garden leaf, the strawberry and the buttercup are painted, never printed flat — they are watercolour, so they vary, and that variation is the point rather than a fault.

The two typefaces

Matilda's 6th Birthday
Fraunces — the name and the age — the line a six-year-old reads first.
The Walled Garden at Foxcote House
Lora — the time, the place, what to bring, and the note for the grown-ups.

The one mark

There is no logo. Every piece is a page lifted from Matilda’s own picture book — the strawberry corner of her grandparents’ walled garden, painted in watercolour, with Jam the rabbit caught mid-mischief among the fruit. Jam appears somewhere on every single piece: a paw print, a silhouette, him stealing a strawberry. Finding him is half the point.

Digital offset on uncoated natural stock, corner-rounded, with a printed envelope liner. Nothing is laminated and nothing shines — the watercolour has to sit into the paper the way paint does, and a gloss would turn a picture book into a party bag.

Using it yourselves

This is your event's visual identity. If you make anything yourselves, use these exact colours and these two typefaces — the restraint is the design.

The colours, to copy

#3A3530 · #7FA65A · #D94F6B · #FBF3DE · #F7C948

Bracken Ink · Garden Leaf · Strawberry · Buttercream · Buttercup, in that order.

The two typefaces, and where to get them

Fraunces and Lora are both free and open-source, and both are on Google Fonts — search the name, install the family, or pick it straight from the font menu in Canva, Google Docs or Word. You do not need a licence and you do not need to ask us.

5 rules, if you make something new
  1. Buttercream is the paper. Bracken Ink is every word. Nothing else carries language.
  2. The green, the strawberry and the buttercup are painted. Wobbly is correct; flat is not.
  3. Jam appears once on every piece, hidden rather than announced.
  4. Hand-drawn warmth over digital polish — colour that sings without shouting.
  5. The invitation is addressed to the child, by name. Matilda insists, and she is right.
