Eau de Parfum No.1 · 17 September 2026
ONDINE — Eau de Parfum No.1
If you are reading only one part
- Whoever prints it
- Rigid smooth bone board, about 540gsm. Blind deboss above the
waterline, flat digital offset below it, and no ink at all above the line. The seawater
field must be a flat tint — no gradient, no banding. A registration proof is
required before any run; see the diagram below for why.
- Anyone laying out
- One waterline, in the same position on every piece — 58% down on
landscape pieces, 62% on tall ones. Three values and no fourth. DM Sans only, at weight 500
for the wordmark and detail caps. Never letterspace lowercase, and nothing is ever set in
italic or script.
- Production and signage
- The welcome signage is a free-standing panel, and its waterline
aligns to the reflecting pool installed down the centre of the room. That alignment is the
reason the pool is there — measure it on site, not from the drawing.
- Anyone tempted to make it pretty
- Please do not. No perfume-bottle illustration, no
florals, no gold, no foil, no drop shadow, and no “essence of elegance” copy. The stationery
should feel machined from the same material as the bottle.

The visual identity at a glance
Three values, and no fourth
Bone#EFECE6
the board, and everything above the line
Graphite#2E2E2C
every word that has to be read
Seawater#9BB0B4
the field below the line — never type
Seawater is a field, not a type colour. On bone it is far too pale
to be read, and it is never asked to be. Information below the line is set in graphite. There is no
gradient anywhere in this identity: the tone does not fade into the water, it changes at the
line.
Match to the printed piece, not to these squares. A flat tint on a smooth 540gsm board
reads colder than any screen will show it.
The one thing to get right
Ondine
Ondine
Above the line: blind deboss into dry board, no ink.
Below the line: printed in graphite on the seawater field.
Both halves share one origin.
Ask for a registration proof before the run. The wordmark crosses the waterline and the two
halves must line up exactly — same origin, same tracking, same indent. If they are out by even a
little the piece has failed, and no quality of finish rescues it. This is the whole object; it is
not a detail.

waterline sits at 58% on the landscape pieces and 62% on the tall ones — the depth is constant in

Day-of notes
Notes for the night
- The press card
- The announcement card doubles as the press card and must carry the
line “The Ligurian sea in February.” That was the entire brief Lucia gave her perfumer, in
one sentence, and No.1 took thirty-nine trials over three years to answer it.
- The reflecting pool
- Installed down the centre of the room for the launch. The signage
waterline aligns to it. It is an homage — Lucia's grandfather taught her to swim, the studio is
his former drafting studio, and the launch date is his birthday.
- The bottle
- Rectangular frosted glass with a graphite cap. The stationery should feel
machined from the same material; if a piece feels softer than the bottle, it is wrong.
- Material
- Rigid smooth bone board ~540gsm, blind deboss, flat digital offset, printed
addressing. No foil, no gold, no varnish.
Please do not
- No perfume-bottle illustrations, and no florals of any kind.
- No gold, and no foil.
- No script or italic display type.
- No gradients. No drop shadows.
- Never letterspace lowercase.
- No “essence of elegance” copywriting.
- No ink above the waterline, and no fourth colour anywhere.
Lucia's own list. The register she asked for:
one grid, two inks, absolute confidence.
